Linking Policy

The ZeroFuzion IRC Network has a firm policy when it comes to linking your IRC server to our network. You must agree to the terms listed in this policy. If you agree to all terms, you are eligible for your IRC server to be linked to our network.

Please do NOT submit an application if you cannot comply with these requirements.

Server Requirements

  • Servers are required to have time clocks within 5 seconds of actual time.
  • Servers should be stable enough to run for months at a time without rebooting. It should be intended that a server will be connected 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. All ZeroFuzion Links must be hosted on machines running some flavor of Linux, Unix, or *BSD.
  • Servers should be reasonably powerful machines. An old 386 running Linux/BSD is not acceptable. However, a Linux/BSD OS running on Pentium class machine should works fine.
  • Servers will have appropriate security measures in place to prevent being compromised. If the server security is compromised, havok can be wreaked on ZeroFuzion. At a minimum, all servers shall have shadowed passwd files, and the admin must keep up-to-date with the latest CERT advisories. If you need help or advice about security issues, you should ask another server operator. Should your server be compromised, it will be delinked.
  • The minimum speed for a ZeroFuzion Server Link is T1 or better. Links should be as reliable as reasonably possible. If the bandwidth is saturated, the server will be denied. Servers that can not stay linked or have continual netsplits will be delinked.
  • ZeroFuzion is running UnrealIRC it might not be the most current version as we test versions before we run them, therefore you must check with our Network Admins before you just load a copy and run it.
  • When a new server version is issued, an announcement will be made indicating the date by which all servers must be upgraded. Servers that do not update their version by the deadline date will be de-linked.

Terms of Linking

  • Server name must be "servername.countryprefix.zerofuzion.net".
  • Server must be accessible by ports 6667 - 6669.
  • Use the pre-configured "unrealircd.conf" and "ircd.rules" files which will be submitted to you upon linking.
  • Must have proven permission from the root administrator of your system that you can run IRCd.
  • Be on a reasonable and stable connection to the internet.
  • You only may have one Server Administrator per server.
  • Server must be Unreal 3.2 or later. (Can be downloaded from http://www.unrealircd.com/)
  • Server Administrators are responsible for their own "unrealircd.conf" files and must not show this file to any other Server Administrator.
  • We will allow you to have your own Server Administrator, Co-Administrator and/or IRC Operators. However, you must seek permission before adding any other O-Line to your configuration other than your own. We do this so we can maintain a Staff record and make sure no one else is using anyone else's O-Line or hacking passwords.
  • Servers will have non-abusive IRC operators. /kill should only be used in extreme situations (flood or attacks, hung clients only when user@*domain matches or a threat to the network). The Server Administrators will be responsible for choosing people they trust and that have a knowledge of the duties of an IRC Operator.
  • IRC Operators must be willing to help users to the extent needed to maintain a trouble-free, good-natured net. This does not mean Opers have to hold users' hands and walk them through everything, but at least point them to a good source of information.
  • Abuse of operator priveleges by ANY server operator is reason enough for link removal.
  • ALL IRCops will be required to idle in official network channels

If you have ANY questions about our linking policy, please visit our linking staff at #routing and we will be able to help answer any questions you might have or email us at routing "at" zerofuzion "dot" net.
